College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) is one the largest college in terms of program numbers, staff number and student size next to College Medicine and Health Sciences. The college has been working hard for more than 15 years to expand its programs and teaching learning modalities, and assure quality of education. When it was established first, there were only four departments which were offering undergraduate courses. However, now the college has 18 departments and 11 Coordination offices. Although all the departments have undergraduate students, the college has 22 MA/MSC and 12 PhD Degree in the regular, extension and summer programs.
CSSH has been doing exemplary activities that can be taken as best practices by other schools, faculties, and colleges of the university related to the teaching learning process, community services and research. The college is putting in to effect its maximum effort to assure quality education, thus its remarkable achievements were acknowledged by the university community and stood first among all the schools, faculties and colleges of the University of Gondar in the academic year 2017/18 and 2018/19 consecutively. In addition to the teaching learning process, caring out problem solving research and provision of community service activities are also other pillars of the college. Currently one research center and one journal are available within the college. To make the university’s vision real, CSSH plays an important role in the teaching learning process, community services and research. CSSH has been producing qualified human resources and strengthening its capacity, and expanding its programs in line with the above three major duties and responsibilities of the college.
