The College of Natural and Computational Sciences, established in 1999 E.C. (2007/8) with about 250 students in four degree programs, was one of the three the then faculties of the university. The college has now grown to enrollment of more than 3000 students in seven degree and two masters programs in both regular and summer in-service. Since its establishment, the college has been strengthening and developing itself to contributing skilled human capital with science and computation skills, knowledge, and attitude to our country’s development.
The college currently has a total of 134 academic staffs in seven departments. With this much human power it has been providing quality education, research and community services. Out of the total academic staffs we have, 91 are on duty and 43 of them are on study leave for their higher degree both in domestic and abroad. Our college’s staff profiling shows that about 25 percent is with the rank of assistant professors and above whereas about 64 percent is lecturers.
On expanding academic programs, the college has a running masters programs in Physics with different specializations and in Mathematics Education and Applied Mathematics with different specializations. In light of expanding its Masters programs, this year, an additional four programs namely Masters degree in Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, and Sport Science with different specializations are under development and some of them are on the final stages.
The college has 12 natural sciences laboratories and 7 computer (computational) laboratories where our students practically equipped with the necessary skills that is required for the work force of the country’s development.
In addition, the college is timely enough to have some precious chemical instruments such as; HPLC, FTIR, AAS, UV-Vis used for research and for students’ practical sessions. We have a total of 27 laboratory technical assistants where 10 of them are on study leave for their higher degree and 17 of them are assisting and running our laboratories.
We are also trying to establish zoological museums and botanical gardens where our students can have more practical skills that complement their class room theoretical principles.
With all the laboratory and other available resources, leadership, and staff profile and commitments we have, more than 3000 students that have been enrolled in regular and in-summer undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The college with its staff and researchers, besides we have been doing in teaching and learning, with all the professional capacity and facilities we have, our outreach to the community in addressing sciences and mathematics are extended to

Providing trainings to school teachers and students.
Giving tutorials for grade 10 and 12 students preparing for their school leaving examinations.
Organizing and facilitating practical activities (science laboratories) for secondary schools.
Professional development project trainings for school teachers in aligning instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
Inspiring kids in science laboratories.
Providing regularly summer STEM programs for school students of the DD administrative.

On the involvement of research, about 82 percent of the college’s staffs have been doing research since 2009 E.C. to date. Specifically, in the current year, more than 10 percent of the staffs are involved in different researches.
Therefore, our college, the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, will continue producing well trained and practically skilled citizens in science and computation and serve the community with problem solving research outputs.
