Faculty of Business and Economics is the pioneer faculty launched in November 2011/12 at Woreta. The faculty started its operation in Accounting and Finance and Economics Undergraduate Degree programs in both regular and extension followed by Management and Tourism & Hotel Management as the third & fourth undergraduate degree programs launched in 2012/13 & 2015/16 respectively at the root place of history of Tewodros II the first industrial center of Africa; Debretabor, Gafat. In 2015/16 the faculty also opened a post graduate program in Development Economics.

In line with the main objective of the university, the Faculty staff members are committed to conduct community based research & serve the community on areas of Business and Economics in addition to the teaching learning activity. For instance; besides its normal task, the Faculty had offered short term awareness creation training for the Zonal Category A and B tax payers about tax proclamations, tax assessments, internal control and financial management for Small and Micro Enterprises with tangible output. The faculty also train & supports small business owners about entrepreneurship, time management, customer handling & leadership & change management.
Besides the community service, the faculty have had identified numerous thematic researchable Business and Economics areas and more than 10 proposals were submitted to the faculty since 2014/2015.

With the need for expansion of higher education and the need for highly specialized manpower in the community specifically and the country in generally, Faculty of Business and Economics is hopefully working hard to launch post graduate programs in Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and MSc in Accounting and Finance in 2014/15.
